Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research (WMT&R) Ltd - a Nadcap/ISO 17025 accredited destructive test laboratory - are delighted to announce significant increased machining capacities at its UK headquarters in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Recently installed within its existing, purpose-built, on-site machine shop, a doubling of cylindrical low stress grinding capacities shall ensure greater flexibility and faster leadtimes for customers who use this specific method of manufacture.

Commenting on the investment, Corporate Development Manager, Darren Jones, said: "This is a significant investment for our UK facility and demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality service to our customers. The additional capacity will allow us to meet the growing demand for our services and ensure we can continue to deliver on our promise of fast, accurate and reliable testing."

Managing Director, Darren Papworth, added: "The doubling of our cylindrical low stress grinding capacity is a direct response to customer feedback and market demand. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our service and this investment is just one example of how we are doing that. We are excited about the opportunities this will bring and look forward to continuing to support our customers with their materials testing needs."

Why Cylindrical Low Stress Grinding Matters

Cylindrical low stress grinding is a critical process in the preparation of test specimens, particularly for fatigue testing. The process minimizes residual stresses and surface defects, which can significantly affect test results. By doubling capacity in this area, WMT&R Ltd can ensure that customers receive the highest quality specimens, prepared to the most exacting standards, in a shorter timeframe.

This investment is part of WMT&R Ltd's ongoing commitment to maintaining its position as a world leader in materials testing. By continually investing in the latest technology and expanding capabilities, the company ensures it can meet the evolving needs of its customers across a range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical, and power generation.
